Where video looks best

The Bridal Suite (red room upstairs)

Spacious, vibrant, and perfect for getting ready footage. The windows over looking King Street create dramatic, cinematic light. (Pro tip: we’ll tidy up a bit so the room feels calm on camera.)

Piazza outside the Red Room

Shaded, private, and tucked away. Great for a quiet first look with soft light even on sunny days.

Reflection pool courtyard walkway (King Street side)

The trees diffuse light beautifully (although sometimes it can be spotty) and the vibe feels unmistakably Charleston. A favorite spot for couples portraits.

Garden path

Great for a few quick shots, but it’s more public and often in the direct sun. We usually stop by here quickly, and move to more shaded areas.

King Street (right outside the venue)

Being on King Street is a huge perk. We love stepping out for a quick walk on the sidewalks so your film screams Charleston.

Be prepared – it’s lively (cars & people), and you’ll get a lot of attention (cheers and honks). Embrace it! We love using the sounds of the city to create atmosphere in the film.

Ceremony options (with sound & vibe)

Reflection pool courtyard (our top pick)

Iconic ceremony setting with balanced light and room for guests. It also gives us a clean audio plan and stunning overhead establishing shots. You’re close to King Street, so you may hear a bit of city life in the background. It’s part of the charm, and we mix it gently.

Guest house courtyard

Pretty visually, but there’s a large A/C unit nearby that can introduce a low hum on our microphones.

Cocktail Hour

Reflection pool courtyard

The main courtyard shines here, it’s spacious, social, and photogenic. From above, we can capture an aerial of guests mingling with King Street in the background.

Dinner

Upstairs grand room

Filled with artwork and warm evening light; as the sun sets it feels intimate and romantic. It’s a beautiful backdrop for dinner, quiet moments, and detail shots.

Toasts (our recommendation)

At William Aiken House, toasts in the upstairs room are usually not amplified (no microphone), which limits audio quality on video and can feel a bit crowded.

For the best experience, we suggest moving to the dance floor downstairs for speeches, either right before or after dinner.

  • Clean, clear audio: we place tiny recorders on the DJ/band sound system so your toasts sound crisp in the film.
  • Better flow & space: guests can spread out instead of clustering between tables.

If you love the look of upstairs for speeches, consider asking your planner/DJ about a small PA + handheld mic. We’ll adapt either way, but the downstairs setup consistently gives the best audio.

FAQ’s

How do you handle audio for vows and toasts?

Small, hidden mics for the ceremony (one on minister, one on groom). For toasts we connect to the band/DJ’s sound system and also record a backup.

Will we notice you during the ceremony?

Not much. We do our best to work the edges, keep movements slow, and stay off center so guests see you, not us.

Do you use lights during the reception?

Yes, a small soft setup so faces look natural. Enough to help, not enough to change the vibe.

Can you fly the drone here?

Yes, as long as the weather cooperates (no rain and calm winds).

How do you work with photographers?

We approach it like teammates. We let the photographer take the lead and jump in when we can. The goal is to keep the whole process seamless for everyone. We pride ourselves on doing that consistently.

Do you include full ceremony and full toasts?

Yes. Both are included with your highlight film.

How do we check your availability?
